HIGHCLERE CASTLE, EXHIBITION AND GARDENS
Monday 08 April 2019

MONDAY 8TH APRIL:

HIGHCLERE CASTLE, EXHIBITION AND GARDENS
Highclere Castle is one of England's most beautiful Victorian Castles set amidst 1000 acres of spectacular parkland.  The Carnarvon family have lived at Highclere since 1679 and the current castle stands on the site of an earlier house which in turn was built on the foundations of the medieval palae owned by the Bishop of Winchester for some 800 years.

However, most of you will know Highclere better known by the very popular TV Series 'Downton Abbey' and will recognise many rooms including the Drawing Room in which Maggie Smith has delivered many a withering comment to some unfortunate relation.

We have full access to the Castle, Egyptian Exhibition and Gardens and there is a self-guided tour of the Castle at 11 am.  Lunch and Refreshments can be found at the Tea Rooms open from 10.00 to 17.00 for sandwiches, baguettes, cakes and freshly baked scones through the day, plus hot food served from 12 noon to 14.00 in the main Castle Tea Rooms and Coach House Tea Rooms.
